Get "Goosed"
There is an opportunity for you to get “Goosed” this weekend. Goosed is a musical about Mother Goose and all the nursery rhyme inhabitants of Mother Goose Land, that is being put on by a group called ShowCamp Productions.
I had the opportunity to see their dress rehearsal, along with about 500 little kids who came from Los Angeles just to see the show. Judging from their enthusiastic response, the show was certainly a hit with these kids --- and I think it will be with you too if you go to see it.
There are 127 children, from elementary school age to high school students who perform in the show along with a handful of adults. Ann Gardner has the title role of Mother Goose, with her husband Brooks Gardner (or at least his projected image) playing the Man in the Moon. She faces a court trial presided over by “Judge” Steve Saracino, when Mother Goose and the inhabitants are faced with eviction after being sued for not being politically correct.
The real stars of the show are those very talented young actors, dancers and singers. They have spent the past 7 weeks honing their skills. They’ve gotten a lot of help from parents who have spent untold hours making costumes and sets. By the way, the costumes and sets are really something to see.
There are some great individual performances, like Doug Davis and Katie Trimble in the roles of Jack Spratt and his wife. Michael and Gina Bishop are outstanding as Peter Pumpkin Eater and wife. Caitlin Ary’s singing as Mary Mary Quite Contrary is matched only by her energetic dancing . Brandon Yarbrough as Humpty Dumpty, and the dancing Hip Hoppers had the young audience really moving. And the show wouldn’t be complete without a real goose, Lucy Goosy played the part like she was --- well, born to be a goose.
Darrell and Jenny Bishop are the directors of ShowCamp, and they have really done a great job putting this large production together. It opens tonight, Friday, August 19, at 7 p.m. in the Burbank High School Auditorium. There will another performance Saturday night at 7 p.m., and 2 p.m. matinee performances on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Tickets are $12 each for adults, and $10 for children and seniors. They can be purchased at the door.
